Astrology Series: Capricorn the Sea-Goat

Follow along the Astrology series, where I, Imogen Rolfe, embark on a journey of turning myself into each of the zodiac signs with full costume, hair and make-up made and designed in the studio.

Within Astrology, there lie thousands of years of history, science, myth and legend. By undertaking this project I am endeavouring to learn more about the evolution of Astrology.

Dating back to Babylon, Hermes Trismegistus and Ancient Egypt, the study of the planets has influenced the world we live in today.

Whether you like it or hate it, live by it or think it’s nonsense, the study of the stars (and at least reading the stories of each zodiac sign) has the ability to offer guidance, teachings and predictions when science is yet to prove its point.

Wise, mystical, ambitious and dare we say stubborn – the sea goat will always have your back and get the job done with a side of sass.

Half goat and half fish, Capricorn is the elder of the zodiac. Ruled by Saturn, the planet representing authority, time and institutions that rule over us such as our parents, teachers, employers and the law – Capricorns are natural-born leaders, often opting to take a pragmatic approach to situations.

There are three types of Capricorns: The Stoic, The Sensual and The Supernatural.

The Stoic Capricorn is Saturn’s best friend. They love everything to do with logic and reason and live by the rule of time. In fact, they like to be the ones to make the rules, often authoritarian by nature and are great with self-discipline.

The Sensual Capricorn has an affiliation with the deity Pan, also known as the Wild God and Cernunnos. Forever youthful by tuning into their sexuality and creative energies, they inspire and rejoice in the nourishment their bodies offer.

The Supernatural Capricorn is based upon the Babylonian Enki or Annunaki. These are the real ‘old soul’ types, who have lived many lives and are guided by an indescribable force based on past-life experience. They are wise beyond measure and live on Kairos time (Ancient Greek: καιρός meaning deep time), something that would drive the Stoic Capricorn insane.

Capricorn is the only hybrid sign in the zodiac. The top half, that of a goat represents the head, thought and thinking, something Capricorn is very good at.

The bottom half, the fish represents the spiritual side of Capricorn and balances out the head. One of the greatest lessons for Capricorn is to not get too stuck in their heads and rush to the top of the mountain – there is a lot more to life than ‘success’ and they will feel most fulfilled when they remember to connect to their other more sensual and mystical side.

There are several myths affiliated with Capricorn, as mentioned above – Pan, God of Nature and the Goat Amalthea from Ancient Greece. Also from Sumeria and Babylon – Enki, the god of water.
